Eliseu Visconti is the most expressive representative of impressionist painting in Brazil. In “The Kiss”, a genre scene typical of his style, Visconti expresses intimacy and tenderness. The painting portrays Louise, his wife, and Yvonne, his daughter. Louise’s medallion, as well as the bows on Yvonne’s hair are recurrent motifs in the artist’s portraits of his family. Both of their clothes, with soft and light brushstrokes, blend in the impressionist influence, which would be heavily criticized in Visconti’s first exhibitions.
