Antônio Gomide.
Lying woman, 1957.
Oil on canvas.
Palaces Collection.

Painter, sculpter, interior designer and scenographer, Antônio Gomide is considered one of the great minds behind Brazilian Art Déco, along with his sister Regina Gomide and his brother-in-law John Graz. In his works, the artist borrows the geometry and simplification of shapes from cubism and mixes it with his own soft shades, as seen in this work, where a woman lies down with a book on a geometric patterned quilt.
