John Graz.
Pastoral, 1926.
Oil on canvas.
Palaces Collection.

Swiss artist John Graz studied Architecture, Decor and Design at the Geneva School of Fine Arts, where he met Regina Gomide, his future wife, with whom he would introduce Art Déco in Brazil. He took part in the Modern Art Week with seven works. In “Pastoral”, the artist resorts to stylization and geometric shapes – typical of Cubism and Art Déco – to recreate a country life scene where a man plays a song for a woman sitting on the grass.
