Almada Negreiros.
Two figures, 1927.
Crayon on paper.
Palaces Collection.

Almada Negreiros was a core figure in the Modernist movement in Portugal and one of the authors of “Orfeu”, a magazine that spread Modernist Art in the country. His works were initially reminiscent of figurativism and conventional representation that slowly turned into geometric and mathematical abstraction, feature of his later works. In this cubist inspired work, the images blend in an overlapping and unified figure, celebrating the encounter between a man and a woman.
