Cícero Dias.
Lady with parasol, n.d. – [between 1920 and 1930].
Oil on canvas.
Palaces Collection.

Cícero Dias started his studies in Pernambuco, his home state, and was deeply connected to his regional experiences, highlighting the local culture and traditions. The female figure is recurrent in his works and features a bucolic atmosphere, poetic content and surrealist influences. In this work, two young women seem to be hiding in the bushes, about to climb a ladder that will lead them to something amazing. The parasol, icon of Pernambuco’s Frevo (a traditional dance style), appears frequently in Cicero’s works.
