Tarsila do Amaral.
Nude study (sitting), 1921.
Oil on canvas.
Palaces Collection.

In 1921, at Julian Academy, Tarsila followed a strict model of nude studies, producing mostly drawings. Her goal at that time was to improve the study of the human figure. At Emile Renard Academy – less strict, she produced more paintings and she tried slight changes to her palette, exercising compositions and even formal distortions caused by light. Amidst her studies and Parisian influences, she produced a series of nude studies, like the three ones featuring this exhibition.
