Di Cavalcanti.
Woman and Landscape.
Oil on plywood.
Palaces Collection.

Di Cavalcanti, born in Rio de Janeiro, brings to his works the typical mannerisms of his hometown, as he proudly claimed. Together with Mario de Andrade and Oswald de Andrade, he was one of the creators of the Modern Art Week of 1922, where he exhibited 12 of his works. In “Woman and Landscape”, the female is shown with only her shoes on, with generous curves and exuberant sensuality. Her figure mixes with the marine landscape outside her window and it certainly implies an association with the “women of the harbour” of the early 20th century.
