Paulo Claudio Rossi Osir was a painter, a drawer and an architect who played an important role helping publicize Brazilian modern art and its artists. His paintings seem to crave a return to order and figuration, in reaction to the experimentations undertaken by avant-garde art of his time. Rossi Osir approaches his recurrent female figures with synthesis of shapes and chromatic interest. Here, he portrays a black woman with luxurious clothing, haughty aura and imposing posture at a time where racial prejudice was strong.
