Galileo Emendabili.
Head of damsel, n.d. [1920s to 1960s].
Brass.
Palaces Collection.

Italian artist Galileo Emendabili brings to his works many classical influences of the Italian Renaissance and mixes them with modern aesthetics. The artist arrived in São Paulo in 1923 and joined several contests for public monuments in the city. He developed many studies for classic allegorical figures with a modern design. In “Head of damsel”, the slender countenance of the female figure is highlighted through geometry and its simplified shapes – elements of the Art Déco style, present in many other works by Emendabili.
