Hands of the
Communities

This exhibition highlights some of the socio-environmental actions promoted by the New Pinheiros River Program, an initiative of the São Paulo State Government to revitalize the Pinheiros River. These actions aim to engage and raise people’s awareness, especially in communities directly impacted by sanitation and improvement works. Drawings, paintings and everyday objects such as vases, bags and toys were produced, made from the reuse of materials that in other circumstances would have been discarded.

The New Pinheiros River Program has great potential for valuing communities. Its goal is to integrate the people of these communities with society as a whole, besides bringing basic sanitation and better living conditions to this population. “Hands of the Communities” tries to recognize and include a production that, just like the furniture and objects of a palace-museum, tells the story of a place, time and people who live there. Like art, it transforms, recycles and resignifies materials through creativity and hand work. Would you like to learn more about the actions carried out on the Pinheiros River tributaries?
