Arcadian atmosphere and inspiration from European castles

The Boa Vista Palace is in Campos do Jordão, a town that due to its climate and landscape, motivated the State intervener of that time, Adhemar de Barros, to start its construction in 1938.

The original project by Polish architect Georg Przyrembel, one of the participants in the Modern Art Week of 1922, had neocolonial features that were modified during the work time frame, assuming an eclectic style inspired from European castles, when it was dedicated in 1964.

In 1969, with the intention of creating a museum, Luís Arrobas Martins, secretary of Finance during Governor Abreu Sodré’s administration, coordinated the creation of an Executive Group for the Utilization of Campos do Jordão Palace (Geapac). It gathered together experts who helped with the selection of furniture, paintings, sculptures, rugs and art objects. With the collections’ acquisition, the building also undertook its vocation as a palace-museum open to the public since 1970.

Besides featuring the collections set in the house museum, the palace hosts thematic exhibitions focusing on the diversity of its important artistic collection.
